Fatal Accidents Mar Ganesh Nimarjanam Celebrations; Emergency Cases Surge at Osmania Hospital

During Ganesh Nimarjanam held on 29 and 30 September, celebrations were marred by a series of tragic incidents that claimed the lives of four individuals, including three minors. The accidents occurred in different locations across the city.

In an incident near Sanjeeviah Park under the jurisdiction of the Secretariat Police Station, 17-year-old Praneeth from Bahdaurpura lost his life. After participating in the idol immersion process with his friends, Praneeth got down from the truck to use the washroom. Upon his return, he attempted to re-board the truck by stepping on a box; he lost his balance and suffered fatal head injuries.

Similarly, in Narayanguda, 23-year-old Shabaz Ahmed slipped while trying to get back on the truck. The tusker ran over his leg, and despite immediate hospitalisation, he succumbed to his injuries.

In Ibrahimpatnam, eighth-grader Sehanath from Sheelapatelgudem fell off a truck due to alleged rash driving. He suffered severe head injuries and passed away. In another incident, four-year-old Ayansh was run over by a truck and was declared dead upon arrival at the hospital.

On the day of the celebrations, Osmania General Hospital received as many as 36 emergency cases. Sheik Shahbaz, 27, a resident of Riyasat Nagar in Chandrayangutta, was among them. Despite the hospital’s emergency treatment, Shahbaz, who had severe injuries, including pelvic and right femur fractures, could not be saved.

City Commissioner of Police (CP) CV Anand stated that the immersion processions concluded peacefully overall, with over 10,200 Ganesh idols measuring above 5 feet and close to 50,000 smaller idols being immersed. CP Anand attributed the increase in the number of idols to the upcoming state elections. He mentioned that political leaders contributed to idols’ grandeur and pandals’ grandeur. The city police, especially the SHE teams, apprehended 255 individuals involved in harassing women in crowded places.
